Bay Area rapper Lil Yase has reportedly died. He was 25. The news were confirmed through multiple social media posts from his friends that were shared on Saturday (Nov. 28). While his record label has yet to confirm the news, other artists commented on his Instagram mourning his death. No cause of death has been revealed yet, but there are reports that he was killed over the weekend.
Tributes for the rapper started pouring in on social media from fans and musicians alike. Director Jeremiah Messiah shared multiple posts about Yase on Saturday, and seemed to also be awaiting confirmation about the rapper’s passing. “This is a sad day for the entire Bay Area that followed @yasemoney600 that’s a GOOD GUY fr!” he wrote.
He shared another post with the caption: “Rest In Peace to one of the coolest funniest dudes I ever met! He was different but he was himself and he always looked out and gave me more money than I asked for recording or anything. And he offered to buy me a new laptop when I got hit. My n—ga forever a real one!”
He added a video with a snippet of a song they seemingly worked on together and captioned the post, “I’ll never forget the times brother @yasemoney600. May the Most High resurrect your soul!” DJ Big L 4 Eva shared a photo of Yase and captioned it, “I can’t believe the news I just got man you know how we rocked Love you Gang until we meet again. Damn!”
“RIP Lil Yase. ‘Pull Up’ with Drakeo was a genuine Bay to LA classic, one of the first to really set off the next wave of West Coast rap,” Jeff Weiss tweeted. “Another tragedy in a year filled with little else.”
The emcee, whose real name was Mark Antonyyo Alexander, was from the Sunnydale neighborhood in San Francisco, California. His record label Highway 420 Productions has yet to issue a statement regarding his passing.
